Breast Cancer and Juicing PART 2

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month so not only have I been wearing my black and pink shoes and pink socks most days, but I thought it important to share some info I have come across regarding breast cancer and lifestyle.  In part 1 we discussed statistics and the documented acknowledgement of the benefit of high quality raw juices for preventing breast cancer and aiding in the destruction of it.  Now comes some more good stuff, some important tips and what to juice! 

I preach day in and day out that our lifestyle choices here in America are the largest predicator of our health.  I know this to be true because I have seen so many people who suffer from those lifestyle choices and just like a wilted plant that gets the nourishment it needs, when these folks make needed changes and provide the nutrition their bodies’ need, they thrive and become healthy.  It is truly wonderful to witness.

Americans consume more processed food products on a daily basis and poor health begins in our children with all theCRAPthey are given to eat.  You wouldn’t let your child play out in a busy street, but you will give them gummy bears, processed snacks, sugary drinks and chicken tenders and wonder why they have trouble behaving, don’t sleep well and have snotty noses all the time.  The ill health that may lead to cancer later in life could be traced back to all the years of poor food that has been eaten. A body can only handle so much.

The largest review of research regarding lifestyle and breast cancer indicated that 40 percent of all breast cancer diagnoses would have been prevented through smarter lifestyle choices. WOW! That number is astounding.

I am often asked what one thing should be done with diet when a cancer diagnosis is received. Well it isn’t as simple as one thing. But I can give you 10 things I recommend. All research points to the beneficial effects regarding cancer and overall health with the implementation of this TOP 10 TO DO LIST of things to aid and/or prevent breast cancer. It is pretty good advice for everyone as well. 

10: Maintain efficient blood sugar metabolism.  The most common metabolic issue in America is poor energy production and blood sugar metabolism.  If you feel weird if you don’t eat regularly, you have a problem. Maintain stable glucose metabolism through proper eating and exercise. Our JUICEBOSS HQ training program is perfect to accomplish proper functioning metabolism.  

9: Toss the underwires! A good deal of information indicates metal underwire bras increase breast cancer risk. So by all means support the girls, but don’t do it with wires!!!

8: Take Omega-3 fatty acids daily. Most Americans are deficient in these important nutrients we know as fish oils.   Use a high-quality product that can be digested and absorbed.  If you burp up fishy taste it is either a low-quality product or you have poor digestive capabilities and need some help with that. Omega-3’s are health beneficial is so many ways and are anti-inflammatory. Like Vitamin D, deficiencies are common in all cancers.

7: GO GREEN!! Juice greens, as much as possible. Daily and in large quantities. Pineapple, apple, carrots and beets are great at making juices tasty and are beneficial for cancer patients as well. 

6: Do NOT eat or drink soy. It is not good for you!  That means for everyone. Soy is high in phytoestrogens. These mimic actual estrogen hormones.  Studies reveal that soy acts as real estrogens and can create breast cell proliferation or alteration. This can create mutation to cancer cells. Many young boys have delayed puberty and develop breast tissue (man boobs) at early ages because of drinking so much soy milk. Most soy in the U.S. is GMO. Avoid soy at all costs.

5: Reduce body fat.  Fat cells are their own little metabolic factories and they love estrogen as it is a fat storing hormone.  Estrogens drive most breast cancers. Get some good help if needed to establish a nutritive eating lifestyle and a training program that works for your needs. 

4: Eliminateprocessed sugar, especially processed high fructose corn syrups. Processed and non-nutritive sugars are bad for you and are shown to promote cancer. High fructose corn syrup is everywhere and very harmful to our health. Remember to read those labels and get it out of your life. It can and has to be avoided. 

3: Exercise. Do I really have to discuss the benefits of regular and intense exercise? Trust me, it makes a huge difference in everything! While that leisurely walk is nice and good for you, it isn’t really enough.

2: Optimize your vitamin D level. Vitamin D influences virtually every cell in your body and is one of nature's most potent cancer fighters. Check your Vitamin D status via a blood test. If you are interested in having your level checked, call us at JUICEBOSS HQ and we will help you get it done!  Vitamin D has actually been shown to get into cancer cells and stimulate cell death, called apoptosis. Vitamin D is so important in so many cellular reactions and functions and the majority of Americans are low in it.  A great functional level is in the 80’s and if you have a cancer diagnosis, you want to make sure you are there and stay there.  

1: Drink green juice daily.  Like every day. This one is so important if you didn’t notice I included it twice! Seriously every day!  

So what vegetables and fruits should you juice? Here is a short list of high powered great tasting nutrient packed superstars.

Kale:  Like the benefits of exercise, do I really need to even say anything about how good kale is for your health and wellness?

Chard, Spinach, Parsley, Cilantro: These greens contain so many healthy compounds and nutrients and can be added to juices in combinations that taste great. Anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, stabilize blood sugars, boost immune system, detoxifying and so much more.

Carrots: Carrots have a lot of retinol which inhibits tumor promotion and contains loads of anti-oxidants that protect against cellular damage.  

Cucumbers: I love what cucumbers can do for you. They are tasty, make great juice and contain high levels of health bringing compounds. Lignans have been associated with a reduced risk of estrogen-related cancers, including cancers of the breast, ovary, uterus, and prostate. Cucumbers have them. In addition, they contain compounds called cucurbitacins. These have been show to block signaling pathways required for cancer cell development and cancer cell survival. One of my favorite juices is our Green Boss which is cucumber based along with spinach, apple and ginger. Delicious!

Beets:  Beets are one of the best anti-cancer veggies and they are great for so much more like circulatory system, nervous system, muscle function, brain function, eliminating anemias, bone, liver, kidney and pancreas function, and healthy pregnancies.

Celery: Remember apigenin!  If not go back and read BLOG Part 1.

Ginger: Studies have shown ginger destroys cancer cells. Ginger is powerful and great for gastric function as well.

Apples: An apple a day right? Apples are healthcare powerhouses. They have high levels of quercitin that has been shown to inhibit common factors found in breast cancer.  The nutrients also reduce inflammation and protect cells and your DNA against damage.

Pineapple: Pineapples have loads of bromelain which stimulates interferon and tumor necrosis factor. These combat inflammation and destroy cancer cells.  Plus, a little pineapple tastes amazing! 

Berries: Berry Blast anyone? It doesn’t just taste great. Berries contain tons of nutrients and powerful antioxidants and bacteria inhibitors. Many also contain ellagic acid.  Blueberries in particular have been studied for their ability to help halt the growth and spread of breast cancer.  

Lemons: Lemons help you eliminate waste and are very effective cancer-fighters.  

Remember that 1 in every 8 women will develop breast cancer. This is simply unacceptable when it has been proven that simple choices liking daily juicing can be a potent and effective tool to change those numbers. Lifestyle is the key to great health and a life of thriving instead of just surviving.  Don’t be a number, start to change your present and your future and see how it works out.
